The Emperor's new clothes...

Image
Recently I read the story of the Emperor’s new clothes to my kids as they prepared for bed.   The background of the story is where two swindlers arrived at the capital city of an emperor who spends lavishly on clothing at the expense of state matters. Posing as cloth makers, they offered to supply him with magnificent clothes that are invisible to only those who are stupid. The emperor hired them, and they went to work. Each time the emperor and his officials visited to check with the progress of these new clothes, the looms were empty but they pretended to avoid being thought stupid. Finally, the weavers reported that the emperor's suit was finished. They pretended dressing him up and he then he sets off in a procession before the whole city. The townspeople uncomfortably went along with the pretense , not wanting to appear stupid. Suddenly a  child  blurts out – “The Emperor is naked - he is wearing nothing at all”! The people then realized that everyone had been fooled. A

Summer at the Kidpreneur Klub!

Image
Summer is here again! Although in a slightly different way... Much as it is a good time to take a break from academic work, it is said that NO classroom work particularly during the long summer holiday leads to ‘summer slide’ or ‘summer brain drain’. This means that students may lose some academic progress made over the previous school year. Hence, students need to stay continually motivated but in a relaxed way. At the Kidpreneur Klub, we help kids develop future ready skills in a fun way through our project-based entrepreneurship program using online tools and age-appropriate resources. Get your kids engaged and motivated this season by working on a business project. By taking our abridged version of the business and life skills course for kids, kids are also helped with their Math, English and Artistic skills... And guess what? it is FREE! We look forward to welcoming your child/children to the Kidpreneur Klub! See link below and Flyer attached for more details... https://forms.gle/

"Life is like a game of chess. To win, you have to make a move. Knowing which move to make comes with IN-Sight and Knowledge"...- Allan Rufus My 1st business for 10 years now has been international school placements and education advisory services...   Last Friday, I sent an email to a school to apply for a student and I got a rather quick response quite different from the normal response which would have been - "Go online to complete an application form for the student.. OR "Here’s the link”. The response I got was, ‘What is the child’s profile’ You may ask, why would a school be asking for a child/student's profile? Here are a few reasons why: Profiles are almost always requested for either through personal statements, mission statements, scholarship essays, etc.to get a 'sense' of the type of student. They want to see that the student is a perfect fit for the school. The likes of Harvard, Princeton, Cambridge, MIT requi

My immediate inner response was ‘What???... With all these blogs??? 😃😃😃 Today, I thought to break it down a little bit more and buttress with a Kidpreneur’s story... The Kidpreneur Klub is all about raising a community of kid-entrepreneurs. We help kids develop  future-ready skills  in a fun and engaging way through our project-based  entrepreneurship   programmes.   Based on research, there has recently been a heavy focus on improving technical skills such as computer programming and data science while the development of soft skills has taken a back seat.  Entrepreneurial education however offers much

What does the word 'NO' mean to you?

Image
Hello Parents & Kidpreneurs,  I have had the opportunity of teaching Kids that the word 'NO' is a full sentence and needs no further discussion. I call it 'Refusal Skills' .  This is the ability to say or show that you are unwilling to do what another person is requesting you to do (especially something that could lead to bad results) by saying a firm but polite “NO” and standing by your decision.  Young people find themselves in situations where others are encouraging them to do something that is clearly risky , illegal , or unhealthy . Even Adults find saying 'NO' difficult. Unfortunately, too many end up giving in to this pressure not because they really want to, but simply because they do not know how to respond in such situations. They are often also afraid of losing the other person's friendship or being left out. It takes a lot of confidence and courage to say ‘NO’ in the face of peer pressure. There are several ways in which you can say NO and
