Our First Book Reading & Activity Session - Edition 1

It's been a while!

Yesterday, we held our first book reading and activity session for kids. It was half-term for many of the kids in the UK and a great opportunity to get them off their gadgets for a one-hour productive session.

We read the stories of 2 Nigerian entrepreneurs - Linda Ikeji and Bayo Omoboriowo whose hobbies turned into businesses and brought them fortune. The former being one of the highest paid bloggers in Nigeria and the latter, the first personal photographer to the Federal republic of Nigeria and the State house.

It was a read-along session with about 30 kids in attendance. Some keys lessons were learned such as:

  • Mind your hobbies, they could become a source of income
  • A man who is diligent in his business would definitely stand before kings and people of importance.
  • Hard work indeed pays off.
  • Determination, discipline and dedication are key to success
  • Follow your passion because profit follows passion

Some new words were also learnt such as:

  • BloggingBlogging is the art of writing about one’s experiences, observations, or opinions.
  • Business - someone’s work which could be an activity of buying and selling goods or services.
  • Networkingthe action or process of interacting with others to exchange information and develop professional or social contacts.
  • Nichea place or position that is particularly appropriate for someone or something, especially due to being very specific and different from others.
  • Exhibitiona public display of works such as art or items of interest usually held in an art gallery, museum or at a trade fair.

Looking forward to our next session in August!
