Developing a Leadership Mindset...
Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others." - Jack Welch
About 70
kids joined our 1st life skills session for the year…the 2nd in the series
tagged: ‘Developing a leadership mindset’...This included 8 kids from an
Orphanage in Nigeria - Yay!!!
The session was aimed more at 'Self leadership, Self-growth and Self direction.
It was
interesting to see how many Parents were asking if the session was for Parents
or for kids and I had to clarify this during the session. Of course, leadership
and related topics are not taught in schools hence I could understand the
confusion but that’s what we do! - Teach skills and topics hardly
taught within the classroom!!!
We started off by explaining why
it was important to learn these skills - one of which is that it is useful for
profiles and school recommendation letters. But also that it’s important to
have a leadership mindset for the future.
But what exactly is a leadership mindset?
It involves having certain attitudes, beliefs and expectations which affects how you lead and interact/influence with others. In simple terms - thinking and acting like a leader...
How can one think and act like a
leader in school?
Here were some tips we shared below:
- Develop the mentality of a 1st! - A role model
- Be Punctual to School or School related
activities
- Present yourself in a neat and tidy manner.
- Submit homework/assignments on time
- Be of best conduct in class (and outside too)
- Have good social interactions
- Start a school campaign
- Engage in extracurricular activities
- Endeavour to be academically outstanding
- Read extensively and learn something new
- Always go the extra mile - Be excellent
We wrapped up the session with our famous Kahoot Quiz which was a great highlight for the
session.
We called it a day with our next session to be held on the 23rd of March - same
time online.
