My Money & Me

  Financial Literacy Month is recognized every April to raise awareness of financial literacy and the importance of good money management habits. On the 25th of May, we had a great time with about 40 kids to learn about money and discuss some money habits supporting their learning with summary sheets and a fun quiz at the end!  They watched a couple of videos to explain how to MAKE, MANAGE and MULTIPLY Money. They also learned about Smart Budgeting. Amongst the many things that were learnt, the key takeaways were: Money is what  people  use to buy  things  and  services . 1. You can make money through: House chores Mini Businesses - Consider the subjects you love, skills you have and something you/your parents own. Working in Parents Company (At 13 years) 2. Smark Work over Hard Work!

  It is often assumed that students should innately know how to study and make good grades not bearing in mind that certain skills and basic techniques are required to achieve this. Just like a chef require skills  to develop recipes, plan menus, and  create those sumptuous dishes, or a seamstress  need to have a good eye for detail and be able to sew straight lines with a sewing machine  so does a student, require skills to know how to study. With exams coming up in May, we highlighted the following tips to help students excel in their academics and study more effectively. Tip 1: Read every day where possible. Make studying like eating every day. Just like you need to maintain a healthy body by eating, so do you need to maintain healthy grades by studying. Developing a Leadership Mindset...

When you become a leader, success is all about growing others."  - Jack Welch About 70 kids joined our 1st life skills session for the year…the 2nd in the series tagged: ‘Developing a leadership mindset’...This included 8 kids from an Orphanage in Nigeria - Yay!!! The session was aimed more at 'Self leadership, Self-growth and Self direction. It was interesting to see how many Parents were asking if the session was for Parents or for kids and I had to clarify this during the session. Of course, leadership and related topics are not taught in schools hence I could understand the confusion but that’s what we do! -  Teach skills and topics hardly taught within the classroom!!! We started off by explaining why it was important to learn these skills - one of which is that it is useful for profiles and school recommendation letters.
